NEW ALBUM “ASTEROID” OUT NOW EVERYWHERE!

A special message from Anya:

My sixth studio album, Asteroid, comes out Friday and I couldn’t be more excited!

I wrote most of these songs over the past couple of years, and a couple of them very long ago. Waiting for a Difference and Gimme Sugar, both written around 2016, finally felt like they found the right sound, place, and time to be released into the world. I wrote about 70 songs, recorded 15, and narrowed it down to these golden ten:

5. Where the Darkness Is
6. Gimme Sugar
7. Sunshine or Shadow
8. UR Good
9. Beautiful & Stoned 
10. London Blues 

As I look at this track listing and think back on writing each one, I feel both excited and in a bit of disbelief. I can’t believe soon they will be not just songs I sing in my head or work on in private, but soon they will be yours, too. 

I know I’m not alone when I say that the past few years have been filled with a lot of change and adaptation to new circumstances, concern about the future, the present, and the state of the world and our place in it. A lot of Asteroid is talking about existential things (like the droid in UR Good that is wondering if its existence has been purposeful and successful), and a lot of it is talking about connection and relationships—to family (Nothing Lasts), friends (Girl Shit), partners (London Blues), cities and places (Beautiful & Stoned), and, mostly, to ourselves (Asteroid).

Sonically, this album came out exactly as I had hoped. I labored over a handful of these for a long time, trying to get the feel right, and I’m happy to say that I’m very, very happy with the final result, thanks to all the people who worked on the album. I want to thank you all for the love and support. I couldn’t do any of this without you.
